Revolutions that have Shaped our World, Part 1: American Revolution 1763-1800 (David Hone)

The Course will look at how we came to have the republic of the United States of America and what shaped the fundamental beliefs, values and institutions which created the new republic and remain essential for understanding the USA today. Was the American Revolution the first world revolution or was it a merely a successful colonial revolt?

The course will cover

  • Introduction to the 18th Century World
  • Causes of tension between the 13 American Colonies and the British Government
  • Reasons the greatest world empire at that time lost its American Colonies
  • Creation of the new republic and a new nation
  • The historical debate over the causes, nature, outcomes and importance of the American Revolution
